If there is a future for news (I don't believe there is) it absolutely must contain independent, paid, full-time reporters. Otherwise what you are talking about is gossip.

Nice analysis. News is suboptimal rather than broken perhaps. That's down to the publishing paradigm, which is unchanged since the first pamphleteers. I agree that the internet can and should improve on this model.

Most interested to see how you tackle the problems with Quibb. However don't underestimate the profound inertia of the fourth estate that your trying to "disrupt" (how i hate that word). Consider why Disqus gained mainstream acceptance, by fitting into the mould.

I'm fairly horrified by this idea since it ensures that even more than now, people will tend to live in a ghettoised echo-chamber, receiving the sub-set of news that matches their biases and pre-conceived notions of what interests them.

The reason that I still go back to newspapers; the things printed on pulp; is the serendipities, the things that I didn't know interested me until I read them, the opinions that are contrary to own, but are interesting and challenging nonetheless, and have been curated by people paid to take the time to ensure they are expressed in the best way possible.

Perfect, far from it. And I like crowdsourced news. But I sure as hell don't want to see the latter replace the former.
